Overview

In Europe and its neighbouring regions are circa 700 orchid species native. Many species are widespread and especially in Southern Europe common. Other species are notedly specialists and can be found only in a small area. Especially Mediterranean islands like Sardinia, Sicily, Crete, Cyprus and Rhodes are rich in individuals and species. But also some regions of the European mainland like parts of Spain, Southern France, Southern Greece, Tuscany and Monte Gargano in Italy are very worthwhile.

Also parts of Germany are rich in orchids, although not as many like destinations in Southern Europe. Especially the Kaiserstuhl and the region on the Upper Rhine south to Basel, the Swabian Alb, the Rhön and the Allgaeu are interesting in Germany.

On the next sites you attain to my orchid excursions in Germany and abroad. Partially the next sites contain a photo gallery, an overview of the found species and several position information.
