The species grows on basic as well as on acidic soils in shady forests. In the low mountain ranges these are mostly beech forests, at higher altitudes coniferous forests in the contrary. The plant is petite and rather unconspicuous. The Coral-root Orchid has unconspicuous, very small flowers. As a specific feature exists by the Coral-root Orchid a <a href=\"..\/..\/..\/..\/service\/bibliothek#Hetero\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i class=\"fa fa-book\"><\/i> myco-heterotrophy<\/a>, this means that the plant relys on a symbiosis with soil fungi.
